2023 has been a great year for movies with massive hits like Jawan, Pathaan, Gadar 2, Animal, Dream Girl 2, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and many more. And now, all eyes are set on 2024, with Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor’ film Fighter being the the first big release of the year. The film is directed by Siddharth Anand, post the success of War and Pathaan. Fighter, which is slated to release on January 25 coinciding with Republic Day.
Fighter is an aerial action drama that revolves around the life of an Indian Air Force pilot, played by Hrithik Roshan, who faces various challenges and dangers in his mission to protect the nation. Deepika Padukone plays his love interest and a fellow pilot, while Anil Kapoor plays his mentor and commander. The film also features Akshay Oberoi, Karan Singh Grover, and others in supporting roles.
GCC censor board puts a ban on Fighter
In a shocking turn of events, the highly anticipated action thriller Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, has been banned from releasing in all Gulf countries except UAE. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, was scheduled to hit the theatres on January 25, 2024, coinciding with the Republic Day holiday in India.
The censor screening was held on the 10th of January, 2024 and it is on the 23rd that it was officially communicated that Fighter won’t be seeing a release in almost all the Gulf countries. The denial of release is quite a setback for the makers.
The film failed to get clearance from the GCC Censors, who probably found some scenes and dialogues in the film to be offensive and inappropriate for the audience. The exact reason for the ban is not yet known, but it is speculated that the film may have depicted some sensitive issues related to politics.
Fighter to lose potential significant overseas business
The ban is a huge setback for the film, which was expected to rake in a good amount of business from the overseas market, especially from the Gulf region, where Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone have a huge fan following. Most recently, Tiger 3 was banned in Kuwait and Qatar. Fighter may lose out on business of around 500k to 1 million dollars due to the denial of clearance in the Gulf countries by the GCC Censors.
Box Office Prediction For Fighter
Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter carried huge expectations but advance bookings are from satisfactory. Film is struggling to open around 25 cr nett day one and at the moment, it will be lucky to cross 20-22 cr nett opening day which is way below par.
National holiday on 2nd day of run will surely help the film and will smite good 100-120 cr nett weekend if reports are good. Film should cross minimum 250 cr nett lifetime and anything less than that will be massive dent in stardom of Hrithik.

Weekend: 103 cr nett
Lifetime: 175 cr nett
Going by the official description, “Fighter will narrate the story of an aspirational young man named Shamsher Pathania, who must overcome his obstacles after enlisting in the Indian Air Force in order to become a hero of the Indian Armed Forces. Fighter promises to take the viewers on a gripping journey filled with action, drama, and stellar aerial action performances.”
The film has generated a lot of buzz among the fans and critics, who have praised the trailer and the songs of the film. The film also marks the first collaboration of Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, who are considered to be among the most popular and talented actors in Bollywood. The film is produced by Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures, and has a budget of over Rs 200 crores.
